Meet Our Board Member
Jim Hetrick
Jim was born and raised in Fremont, Ohio and made his way to Iowa to attend Waldorf Jr. College in Forest City. After two years at Waldorf, he attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, graduating in 1967 with a BA in Education with a major in speech and theater.
Jim began his career teaching speech and theater at Central DeWitt High School in DeWitt, Iowa. He also directed plays and musicals. He later became involved with computers and left the classroom to become the district’s technology coordinator. Along the way he also coached boys and girls high school cross country programs. After forty-three years, Jim retired in 2010.
Jim has stayed active in retirement as the office manager for The American Legion Boys State and as a member of the DeWitt Noon Lions and the DeWitt Area Fine Arts Foundation. He has also helped develop and maintains the mountain bike trails in DeWitt’s Westbrook Park.
DeWitt has been home to Jim, his wife, Penny, and their daughter and two sons for nearly 60 years. He enjoys the closeness of the tight-knit community. Jim joined the Better Health Foundation Board to make a difference in the community by providing health opportunities and solutions.
