TMBC Walk-in-Wednesdays Clinic Serves Neighbors
Free blood pressure checks at the TMBC Lincoln Resource Center will benefit a central Davenport neighborhood thanks to a grant from Genesis Philanthropy, the predecessor organization to the Better Health Foundation.
The Clinic opened its doors on November 30th with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony that included Better Health Foundation (BHF) Board President Dr. William Langley, and CEO Melinda “Missy” Gowey.
Achieving health equity is one of the drivers behind offering these services, according to TMBC Executive Director Tracy Singleton. “This walk-in clinic is a crucial step towards achieving health equity in the black community by reducing disparities in healthcare access and outcomes,” said Singleton.
Singleton said the neighborhood has the highest population of Black residents in the Quad Cities and, at the same time, the highest rates of blood pressure, heart disease, heart failure, diabetes and low birth weight.
A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) will conduct the blood pressure screenings at the clinic that’s open Wednesdays from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. A portion of the grant funding will help underwrite the cost of the training and certification of CNAs that will serve the clinic.
“It’s exciting to see this project come to fruition and gratifying to partner with the Lincoln Center to improve the health and well being of our community,” said Gowey.
